X2 Pro 3 Drone

X2 Pro3 Drone | Close but no cigar

The X2 Pro3 is a good little drone. It comes close to being the ideal beginner drone but just falls short in a couple of areas. It is small and compact and even features a 4K camera on a real 3-axis gimbal. The X2 Pro3 even has powerful brushless motors and some intelligent flight modes.

The X2 Pro3 Drone is a small, foldable, GPS drone with a good camera. While it is small and portable it just misses the magic weight number of 250 grams. It is just a bit too heavy and must be registered in the US because of its 320-gram weight. The camera is a decent one, but again it comes up a little short. It doesn’t record onboard the drone, so you’ll have to rely on the signal being transferred and recorded on your smartphone. That significantly degrades the quality. The 3-axis gimbal does a decent job but won’t hold up on windy days.

X2 Pro3 Drone Specs

The X2 Pro3 Drone has a range of up to 1200 meters. That is about 3/4 of a mile but that isn’t your video feed. That will cut out around 300 meters and that is less than 1/4 of a mile. The X2 Pro3 Drone has a flight time of up to 20 minutes but you’ll be hard-pressed to get much more than 15. The battery also takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge.

There are a handful of intelligent flight modes that you can activate using the free smartphone app. Return to home, follow me, route planning, and digital zoom can all be accomplished in the app. You’ll need a “5G” smartphone. That really means an AC protocol wifi smartphone and most new models in the last two years should work just fine. There is even a gimmicky gesture control mode.

Should you get the X2 Pro3 Drone?

The camera on the X2 Pro3 Drone is on par or maybe a bit behind other similarly priced drones. At about $150 you can’t expect professional quality pictures and videos. The fact that it doesn’t record to an SD card or on board the drone is really disappointing, especially with a working 3-axis gimbal. For around $150-200 we’d recommend taking a look at the MJX Bugs 16 Pro. It is a much better option.
