Pokemon GO and Drones – Fact and Fiction

Can you use your drone to play Pokemon GO?

Half Chrome couldn’t help but notice the countless people wandering the streets starting at Pokemon Go on their phones. For better or worse (we don’t judge) the Poké-craze is here. There has been much said about what roles drones can and will play in Pokémon Go, We are here to speak the truth. There are basically two styles of article on this topic. We will go over both.

Pokédrone

CX-10 and Pokemon GOFirst, making big news, is the alleged “Pokédrone” from TRNDlabs, check out the very well polished YouTube video. First off, who is TRNDlabs? TRNDlabs is a company in the Netherlands run by overly attractive people. They make a drone that looks shockingly similar to the Cheerson CX-10 series. What came first, Cheerson or TRNDlabs? We don’t know, but we buy Cheerson because they are more popular and half the price.  Check out our review here.

The video tells it all…except that the Pokédrone does not yet exist, and some say it never will. If it ever does come to fruition, Half Chrome will write a review straight away. But for now, practice your flying skills using the next best thing, the Cheerson CX-10A.

The Mirrored Smartphone Hack

So simple, yet so clever. The idea here is that you can view the control one “hunter” phone with another phone, or with a laptop. The player uses the device in their hands to view the screen of the hunter phone and even to control the Pokémon GO app. What’s left to do? Just strap the hunter on any large drone, we would recommend the DJI Phantom 4,  and off you go. Several people have posted about this, one of the best videos we have seen is in this YouTube video. No need to wear out the soles of your shoes if the drone can cover the ground for you. The drone can move faster can go over those pesky bodies of water or skyscrapers that get in your way (make sure you fly safely, We don’t recommend flying in cities, flying over people is illegal). Probably best to have one person control the drone and another person to control the master smartphone. This does appear to work, so if you are so motivated then you should go for it! This is likely limited to Android devices but if you can figure out how to do this with iPhones then more power to you.

Not sure if this is the drone for you???
