Beginner FPV Drone Kit Tested: Makerfire Armor Blue Bee Review

If you’re looking to dip your toes into the world of FPV (first-person view) drones, the Makerfire Armor Blue Bee might just be the perfect starting point. Marketed as an all-in-one beginner-friendly FPV kit, it promises everything you need to get started for just over $100. But does it live up to the hype? Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect—both the good and the not-so-great.

What’s in the Box?

For around $110 (and$8 less with coupon code BLUEBEE08), you get quite a lot:

  • The Armor Blue Bee drone

  • A basic FPV remote

  • A small FPV monitor

  • Two batteries and a charger

  • Spare props and even an extra canopy

This makes it one of the most affordable full FPV starter kits on the market. Most comparable kits cost significantly more, especially popular EMAC kits.

Flight Features and Performance

The Blue Bee is a ducted micro drone powered by brushed motors. While brushed motors aren’t as durable as brushless ones, they keep the cost low, and thanks to the plug-and-play design, replacing them is easy.

A big win for beginners is the altitude-hold feature—a rare addition in FPV drones. This allows the drone to hover in place, freeing you from constantly adjusting the throttle. It also offers three speed modes (low, medium, high), though you’ll need at least medium for outdoor flights, especially in light wind. The drone can even pull off one-button flips.

The FPV experience is analog, with a tiny built-in camera transmitting to the included monitor. Surprisingly, the screen is bright and clear, making it beginner-friendly, especially if you wear glasses or aren’t ready for FPV goggles. For those who want to upgrade, the video feed works with analog goggles like Skyzone 030s.

Where It Falls Short

While fun and easy to fly, this kit has its downsides:

  • Short flight times—the included 300 mAh batteries last about 3 minutes.

  • Flimsy adjustable camera angle—it moves too easily after a crash; gluing it in place is recommended.

  • Cheap remote—small and with some deadband, it feels more like a toy controller. Unfortunately, Makerfire hasn’t shared the radio protocol, meaning you can’t easily bind it to better FPV radios.

Who Is This For?

The Makerfire Armor Blue Bee isn’t going to replace high-end FPV drones, but that’s not the point. It’s designed for beginners, kids, or anyone wanting to test FPV flying without a big investment. The altitude hold and included monitor make learning far less intimidating.

If you’re an experienced pilot, this won’t impress you. But as a gift for a kid or a first FPV trainer? It’s hard to beat at this price.

Final Verdict:

The Makerfire Armor Blue Bee is a fun, affordable way to experience FPV for the first time. It’s not perfect—expect short flight times and a toy-like remote—but for just over $100, it delivers a solid beginner FPV experience.
