Is the Phantom 5 Coming? DJI Event November 28th

DJI just announced a new event on November 28, titled “Because Life is Big.” It will be held in New York at the Good Morning America Studios in Manhattan.

Will this finally be the release of the DJI Phantom 5? We certainly hope so. All of their major drone releases have been in New York, so that is a positive sign.

DJI Phantom 5 Event, Because Life is Big

We have seen leaks of the DJI Phantom 5 for quite some time and it would make sense for them to release it in time for the holiday shopping season. We believe it to be similar in many ways to the current Phantom 4 Pro but with an array of interchangeable lenses.

Leaked images show removable lenses.

DJI has denied that the leaked photos of the Phantom with interchangeable lenses is the Phantom 5, but logic tells us that it is. The cost involved in developing and testing lenses for a single customer is ridiculous. DJI has been working on developing the new Phantom 5 since the release of the Phantom 4. We know it is coming, hopefully on November 28th.

The Mavic 2 Pro vs Phantom 5

Take a look at the Mavic 2 in flight.

Many people thought that the release of the Mavic 2 Pro with its Hasselblad 1″ sensor would put an end to the Phantom line, but it turns out the Phantom 4 Pro camera is still superior in some ways. We fully expect that DJI pushes the Phantom 5 further from the consumer market and closer to the professional market.

We expect to see a 15 mm, 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm set of lenses. We expect it will surpass the Mavic 2 zoom in the ability to optically zoom up to 3x or 5x optically and maybe as much as 7x or 8x including digital cropping. Interchangeable lenses are going to be the biggest addition to the Phantom 5, but what else can we expect?

Other Phantom 5 Features

We have built our own waterproof drone and if we can do it, DJI can do it. I’ve had to cancel flying on numerous occasions because of weather, but if DJI can weatherproof their next Phantom they will have people buying them left and right.

Perhaps Hasselblad will have their hands on this camera as well. We fully expect this to be the best consumer drone camera ever created. Expect 10-bit color to be among the excellent features of the Phantom 5.

Of course, flight time and range will have to be extended. The DJI Phantom 5 will have a minimum range of 8000 meters and a flight time of close to 35 minutes. Make sure you set aside a large chunk of cash, we fully expect the Phantom 5 to start close to $2000 and lenses won’t be cheap.

What else will come with the DJI Phantom 5? We will have to see. Hopefully, that will be on November 28th, Because Life is Big.

What Is the BEST Drone?

So what is the absolute best drone out there? That question isn’t as easy to answer as you’d think. BUT…for most people the answer is the DJI Mavic Air. It is portable, has an awesome camera and excellent flight modes. Learn more about the Mavic Air HERE.

What Is Our FAVORITE Drone?

The Mavic Air is great but the drone that has us excited to go fly the most right now is the Parrot Anafi. The camera and gimbal setup on this drone allow it to do things that no other drone can. Plus, having the ability to zoom in on what you are filming is priceless. Learn more about the Parrot Anafi HERE.

What Drone Is the Best VALUE?

Mavic Air vs DJI Spark
The DJI Spark is an awesome drone and at $399 is half the price of the Mavic Air.

The best value on the market today has to be the DJI Spark. Now under $400, this little dynamo can do things that once upon a time cost over $1000. Learn more about the DJI Spark HERE.
