Mobula8 HDZero Review: The New Tiny Whoop King?

If you’re searching for the ultimate tiny whoop, look no further than the Mobula8 HDZero. This powerhouse micro quad from Happymodel is packed with features and improvements that make it stand out from the crowd. Whether you’re flying indoors or pushing the limits outdoors, the Mobula8 might just be your next favorite drone. I was suprised by how much I enjoyed flying it, as I tend to favor smaller 1S 65mm whoops.

Flight Controller and Power

The heart of the Mobula8 is the HDZero AIO 15, an upgraded all-in-one flight controller. It supports both 2S and even 3S batteries, running on a 15A ESC with bursts up to 18A. This means more power, better performance, and plenty of flexibility. The ESCs are running Blue Jay firmware and it comes with a built-in ELRS receiver for reliable long-range control. The power switchable VTX goes up to 200mW, giving pilots solid video signal for aggressive flights. This AIO flight controller is a marvel and should help push the hobby forward.

Motors and Propellers

With 1102 13,500KV brushless motors and triblade props, the Mobula8 delivers a punchy and responsive flying experience. The motors plug in from the bottom for easy maintenance. Weighing in at just 33 grams, it’s a lightweight beast perfect for nimble flights.

Camera & Video System

The Mobula8 sports the upgraded Lux camera, providing sharper, more vibrant images compared to the Eco model. It’s part of the HDZero system, which means you’ll need HDZero goggles or a compatible receiver – analog and DJI video are not supported. If you value picture quality and minimal latency, HDZero is a top choice for tiny whoops. I have been flying HDZ for a while and it is definitely my go to for anything that is 1S or 2S. The low and consistent latency is key.

Frame Size & Battery Options

One interesting quirk: the Mobula8 is built on an 80mm frame—the same as the latest Mobula7—so don’t be confused by the naming! It is still a small lightweight quad tipping the scales at only 33 grams. While 450mAh batteries offer more punch, 550mAh packs give you extra flight time. . How long you can fly depends on your style, but either battery will keep you smiling. The 80mm frame works well but upgrading to a larger 85mm frame might be a good option if you want a little more flight time or power.

Flight Performance & Who Should Buy

This 2S whoop is a blast both indoors and out. Lower the power for safer indoor flights, or unleash its full power for outdoor acro fun—dives, loops, and rolls are all on the menu. If you’re new to tiny whoops, the Mobula8 is approachable yet delivers advanced performance for seasoned pilots but isn’t overkill for unexperienced pilots either.

Final Thoughts

With great flight characteristics, the latest HDZero tech, and an excellent camera, the Mobula8 is an easy recommendation for anyone wanting to up their tiny whoop game. Plus, keep an eye out for deals—Banggood often has coupons to bring the price down even further.
