Bugs 18 vs Mini SE

MJX Bugs 18 Pro | Best Beginner Drone

The MJX Bugs 18 Pro is an excellent drone for a beginner. It is stable, has a good camera, and costs less than $300. The 4K camera rests on a 3-axis gimbal. The Bugs 18 boasts a 25-minute flight time and a range of up to 3000 meters. With a handful of intelligent flight modes, it is a hard drone to beat for someone looking to fly. MJX Bugs 18 Pro

MJX has been making good beginner drones for a while now. I was a big fan of the Bugs 16 Pro. It is very similar to the Bugs 18 Pro, however, the newer Bugs 18 has a few differences. The Bugs 18 Pro is smaller and more compact but the most important difference is that it has a much-improved range. The Bugs 18 has a range of up to 3000 meters vs the Bugs 16’s 600-meter range.

Bugs 18 Camera

The Bugs 18 Pro’s camera is decent. It is capable of shooting 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps. While it might now be professional quality it is likely good enough for most beginners. The 3-axis gimbal does a good job of stabilizing the video and that is aided by EIS as well. There is a bit of distortion to the image and it is a touch over saturated for my personal preference. If you want professional quality the bare MINIMUM camera on a drone I’d recommend would be the $300 DJI Mini SE. It is much better than the Bugs 18 Pro and for about $20 more I’d recommend it if image quality is important to you.

Bugs 18 Flight Modes

The Bugs 18 has a few useful flight modes. It has a point of interest or an orbit feature. You’ll have to set your radius prior to initiating the flight mode and the drone will then fly the orbit. There is also a follow me feature. In the follow me feature the drone will follow the remote controller, not a particular object. There is also a headless mode, which I do not recommend as it can cause orientation confusion. In an emergency, there is a return to home feature as well.

Should you buy the MJX Bugs 18 Pro?

Overall the MJX Bugs 18 Pro is an excellent drone for a beginner. It is a good and stable flyer. It lacks the refinement and camera quality of the DJI Mini SE at a similar price point. You’ll have to decide which option is best for you. If you want to order the Bugs 18 Pro use the link below and the code:  BGa11279 to save 8%.
