DJI has scheduled an event for April 27, entitled Up Your Game. There are a lot of rumors out there about what this event could be. Will DJI be releasing a new drone? Will it be a new camera? Could we see both? Time will tell.
Up Your Game
The announcement photo doesn’t give us much to speculate on. The black background shows what could be the silhouette of a drone and the tips of the propellers. There are four green LEDs. It seems to be more rounded than the Mavic 2, more like the current Mavic Air.
My best guess is this is the back end of the drone that will be announced on the 27th of April. What will that drone be? There are four possible candidates. The Mavic 3, the Mavic Air 2, the Phantom 5 or some new Mavic-like drone.
Based on the photo this isn’t going to be a Phantom. It seems likely that DJI abandons the Phantom design moving forward for the more popular Mavic lineup. So what will this new Mavic be? The Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro are excellent drones and fill the prosumer niche quite well. The Mavic Mini has replaced the Spark and is a great entry-level drone.
Will DJI up your game?
The Mavic Air was once a great product when it was released in January of 2018. However, it now seems obsolete given its current technology and price. On some levels, the Mavic Mini is a better drone. Whatever this drone is, it is likely to replace the Mavic Air in the DJI lineup. We’ve outlined what we’d like to see improved with the Mavic Air and are hoping that this event will do just that.
Is it the Mavic Air 2?
