For a long time, getting into digital FPV meant spending serious money and committing to a specific ecosystem. At under $40, the P1 delivers true 1080p at 60fps, not softened analog or “HD-ish” video. The camera uses a 1/2.9” CMOS sensor with a wide 170-degree field of view, and the combined camera and VTX come in at roughly 6.5 grams without the antenna. That makes it a realistic option for micro quads and whoops where weight actually matters. It is around 7.5 grams after you add the antennas, cables and a dab of E6000 to hold the UFL antenna in place.
In practice, the image quality is the standout feature. Details are easier to see, colors look natural, and breakup is far more usable than analog static. It’s not racing gear—latency sits around 60ms—but for backyard flying, indoor sessions, and relaxed freestyle, it feels perfectly workable. Lines are clean, obstacles are easier to judge, and overall confidence goes up compared to analog.
The P1 currently pairs with the BetaFPV VR04 HD Goggles, which keeps the total cost of entry into digital FPV under $200. While box goggles aren’t everyone’s favorite, the VR04 HD goggles include DVR recording and a rear-mounted battery that helps balance the weight better than expected.
Compared to higher-end systems like the DJI O4 Air Unit, Walksnail Avatar, or HDZero, the P1 clearly makes compromises. You won’t get ultra-low latency or extreme range—but you also aren’t paying premium prices or adding significant weight to a small build.
One of the more interesting aspects is the ArtLynk protocol, which is positioned as a more open digital standard. If it gains traction, it could mean more hardware options and less lock-in down the road.
For pilots who want a simple, affordable way to experience digital FPV—especially on whoops—the BetaFPV P1 is an impressive starting point that feels genuinely practical rather than gimmicky.
