Hubsan Zino 2

Hubsan Zino 2 – Can this compete with the DJI Mavic Mini?

The Hubsan Zino 2 is an intriguing option for those looking for an alternative to the different DJI Mavic offerings. The Zino 2 initially launched at the same price as the $399 Mavic Mini but has features that put it more in the realm of the Mavic Air or even the full-size Mavic or Mavic Air 2. Unfortunately, the price of the Zino 2 has now risen to $599. Should you opt for this foldable aerial photography drone instead of one of DJI’s?  Let’s take a closer look.

Hubsan Zino 2

The Zino 2 has a few important upgrades from the original Zino. It has a better, 4K camera, a larger battery and an upgraded remote. The specs on it are impressive. The Hubsan Zino 2 has a range of 8000 meters and a flight time of 33 minutes. The camera is a Sony 1/2.3″ sensor that can capture 12 MP stills or 4K footage at 60 fps at a bit rate of 100 Mbps. You will be able to capture both JPEG and DNG images. Hubsan claims this camera was built to be able to handle lower light situations better than their previous cameras.

The camera sits on a full three-axis gimbal to help keep the video stable. It is detachable but it doesn’t appear that it can be used as a stand-alone unit. The Hubsan Zino 2 isn’t small and weighs 915 grams or just over 2 lbs. That is almost 4 DJI Mavic Minis! So you’ll be registering this drone.

The Hubsan Zino 2 will have a top speed of 72 kph or about 45 mph. It will utilize GPS and GLONASS as well as optical flow sensors to help keep it stable. It does have a handful of intelligent flight modes, including an orbit, circle, dronie and follow me. You also should be able to shoot panorama photos as well as time-lapse photography with the new Zino 2.

hubsan zino 2 vs mavic mini

There are a lot of good things that come with the Hubsan Zino 2. It has an impressive list of stats. The camera looks fantastic. It is foldable and portable. Hubsan has even shown a willingness to improve upon their previous models with both firmware and now hardware upgrades.

Zino 2 vs the Mavic Mini and others

How does the Hubsan Zino 2 stack up against the DJI Mavic Mini? What about the original Zino? How about the DJI Mavic Air or Xiaomi Fimi X8 Let’s take a closer look.

Should you get the Hubsan Zino 2?

However, is the Zino 2 worth it’s $599 price tag? Spec-wise it definitely has the Mavic Mini beat, but when it comes down to it is it worth an extra $200 over the Mavic Mini? Hubsan isn’t known for their attention to detail like DJI is. I do like the Zino camera and app but I find it’s flight characteristics to be less than desirable. My Zino tends to struggle to maintain altitude. The right stick on my remote gets stuck to the side from time to time. These are issues that you get from time to time with a $100 drone, but shouldn’t ever get on something you spend $600 on.

I have a hard time recommending the Hubsan Zino 2. The DJI Mavic Mini is a better drone and is $200 less. The Mavic Air 2 is an incredible drone and is only $100 more. If you want a non-DJI drone then I’d take a look at the Autel Evo, the Parrot Anafi, or the Xiaomi Fimi X8. Right now they are better options. The Zino 2 has some glitches to fix and currently is priced too high in my opinion.
