HGLRC Veyron 3 – This cinewhoop is badass

The HGLRC Veyron 3 in many ways is a lot like other cinewhoops out there. It is ducted, has 3″ props and it can carry a GoPro. But there is something that sets the Veyron 3 apart from the rest and that is the padded bumper system that allows it to bounce off of objects and keep on flying. I found a lot of the other ducted cinewhoops would break or crack, but the Veyron 3 design makes it the one to own.

The Veyron 3 is a classic cinewhoop designed to carry a GoPro. It even comes with a mount that will hold your Hero 5, 6 or 7. I modified mine to be able to carry my Hero 8. It uses a Zeus AIO F4 flight controller with a 35 amp ESC. The VTX is power switchable from 25 to 600 mw. Make sure you don’t leave it plugged in for too long without flying as it will overheat and cause potential long-term damage. I may know from experience.

HGLRC is a quality company. They make excellent products and the Veyron is my second HGLRC quad. I’ve been waiting for it to warm up so I could get outside and put my HGLRC Parrot 120 through the paces.

Veyron 3 Hardware

The motors are 1408 and come in either 3600 KV (4S) or 2400 KV (6S) versions. The unit I tested was the 3600 4S variety. You can get it with a Caddx Ratel or the Caddx Vista DJI digital camera. The Veyron I tested was the analog Ratel version. The VTX is power switchable up to 600 mw and you can control it via smart audio.  Make sure you don’t leave it plugged in and not flying at a high setting or it will overheat.

250 grams? Yes…but no

Yes, it weighs less than 250 grams but don’t think you’ll be able to get away without registering it. Without a battery or extra camera it weighs 244 grams, but you won’t be able to get it in the air under 250 grams. With an 850 mah 4S and my GoPro Hero 8 it was 488 grams.   The Veyron flew reasonably well out of the box on the factory tune carrying the GoPro.

Flying the Veyron 3

I really enjoy flying Cinewhoops and the Veyron was no exception. It flies well and I believe it handles better than a lot of the other Cinewhoops I’ve flown. Flying indoors I typically use angle mode and outside I switch it into acro mode. I find acro is much easier to get smooth cinematic footage. It isn’t an acro beast, but that is to be expected. The 4S version is the one I’d recommend as a 6S battery will likely make it too heavy. The Ratel camera is really nice but if you have the digital DJI FPV system I’d suggest you go with the Caddx Vista version. The analog Veyron costs around $200 and the digital DJI version will set you back about $300.

If you don’t have a remote, or goggles I’d recommend the Taranis QX7 and the Skyzone 02C. They are by far the best value you can get for a remote and goggles respectively. The GoPro Hero 8 is the king of action cameras. The stabilization on it is awesome. But if you are looking for something less expensive take a look at these options.

Should you get the HGLRC Veyron 3?

If you are in the market for a cinewhoop then right now this is the drone I would recommend. I love the design. I love the look. I love the innovative bumper system. No, it isn’t less than 250 grams but there isn’t a quad out there right now that can carry a GoPro that is. It isn’t like flying a Mavic, so it will take practice to get proficient at flying in acro but it is well worth it.go
